Monaghan County Council, Monaghan Tidy Towns, Monaghan Town Team representing the Traders and Residents of the town centre, and An Garda Síochána have come together to form a Community Safety Partnership, to address community safety issues in Monaghan town centre. The first initiative to grow from this Partnership is to erect a CCTV system to cover the public areas of the town, in response to a number of anti-social behaviour incidents in the town centre. It is hoped that the CCTV footage will act as a deterrent to criminal and anti social behaviour, and also aid in the detection of crime.
THE VIEWS OF THE RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES OF THE TOWN ARE NOW SOUGHT REGARDING THE PLACEMENT OF THE CAMERAS
A map of the town, showing the proposed location of each camera, is available on the Council website, and is on display in all Council buildings in Monaghan town, including the Motor Tax building, the Market House and the Library.
