Notification of Works – Carrickmacross Town Parking Control Scheme 2021

Subsequent to the adoption of the Carrickmacross Town Parking Control Scheme 2021, Monaghan County Council wishes to notify the public of upcoming delineation works to facilitate the implementation of the Parking Control Scheme. The proposed schedule of works is as outlined below.

Monday 21st March

Time 8am – 6pm

Double yellow lines along West side of Kingscourt Rd & Patrician road
Tues Night 22nd March

Time 7pm – 2am

Parking bays on Main St. Loading Bay / Taxi Rank on O’Neill St and Farney St.
Wed Night 23rd March

Time 7pm – 2am

Parking bays on Castle Rd, Parnell St, & Bridewell Lane.
Thurs Night 24th March

Time 7pm – 2am

Main St. Parking bays in Courthouse Sq. Carpark and on Monaghan Street.

Further Environmental Information has been received by Monaghan County Council from the Department for Infrastructure, Northern Ireland in relation to the following proposed development:

A5 Western Transport Corridor (A5WTC) comprising the construction of 85 kilometres of new trunk road from just south of Derry at New Buildings, passing through Strabane and close to Newtownstewart, Omagh, Ballygawley and Aughnacloy, Northern Ireland which is subject to environmental impact assessment and appropriate assessment and has potential Transboundary effects.  The Further Environmental Information received consists of:

  • An Environmental Statement Addendum (ESA 2022) and accompanying Non-Technical Summary (NTS) Revision C, and
  • Reports of Information to Inform an Appropriate Assessment Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Watercourses covering: River Foyle & Tributaries SAC, Owenkillew River SAC and River Finn SAC,
  • Report of Information to Inform an Appropriate Assessment covering Tully Bog SAC,
  • Reports of Information to Inform an Appropriate Assessment Special Protection Areas (SPAs) covering: Lough Foyle SPA, Lough Swilly SPA, and Lough Neagh & Lough Beg SPA, and
  • Reports of Information to Inform an Appropriate Assessment Ramsar Sites covering: Lough Foyle Ramsar Site and Lough Neagh & Lough Beg Ramsar site.

Update – Public Realm Enhancement Works at Entrance to Lough Muckno Park

Monaghan County Council wish to remind the public that the on-going works to the main entrance area at Lough Muckno Park in Castleblayney shall necessitate the closure of the main entrance to vehicular traffic, for a 5-week period commencing on Monday the 21st of March 2022. Park patrons may wish to avail of the public carparks located off Thomas Street during this period. Pedestrian access to the Park shall be maintained throughout the duration of the works. Monaghan County Council wish to again thank the public for their continued support and cooperation in the delivery of the Gate Lodge No. 2 refurbishment project.

Public Information Event – Inniskeen Village Public Realm Spatial Plan

Following extensive consultation with community partners and the wider public, Monaghan County Council, in conjunction with The Paul Hogarth Company, has developed a Public Realm Spatial Plan for the village of Inniskeen. Monaghan County Council would like to thank everyone that participated in the consultation process. It is through your feedback and continued support that the Public Realm Spatial Plan has reached fruition.

Monaghan County Council now wish to invite you to a Public Information Event to view details of the developed Public Realm Spatial Plan. The event will provide an opportunity to engage with representatives from Monaghan County Council and The Paul Hogarth Company, to discuss the proposals outlined in the Plan and consider public realm enhancements not already included.

Carrickmacross St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The town of Carrickmacross expects a large attendance at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place on Thursday, 17th March at 3pm.

The day kicks off at 11.15am with the raising of the flag at the Courthouse, Carrickmacross which will be accompanied by music from the Stedfast Shoes Brass Band – all are welcome to attend. Carrickmacross Comhaltas Branch are performing live traditional music from the reviewing stand on Main Street at 2.15pm which is sure to warm up the crowd!

The Parade will take its usual route, commencing at the junction of the Donaghmoyne and Dundalk Roads, up through Farney Street, down Main Street and finishing at the bottom of the town at the Courthouse. Parade participants are asked to assemble on the Dundalk Road from 2:30pm.

The Carrickmacross St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the best Parade’s around with many colourful floats and fantastic marching bands.  There are prizes awarded to the winners and runners-up of the “Best Float” and the “Best Band” on the day, and this year it could be you!

Plenty of entertainment on the day for the whole family including Hudson’s Funfair which will be in the Drummond Etra Carpark. We also have stalls selling a variety of treats such as crepes, sweets, snacks and hot/cold drinks as well as a “Hook a Duck” stall.

New Local Services Website Launched

The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), with support from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the County and City Management Association (CCMA), has developed a new website called services.localgov.ie.

The website contains a catalogue of the services provided by the local government sector in Ireland. Information on over 1,000 services is presented in a user-friendly and accessible manner all in one place and is available in both English and Irish. Users can browse the catalogue in a number of ways and can link directly to their local authority to access a service. The project delivers on Actions 3 and 4 of Our Public Service 2020 to improve communication with the public and to make services more accessible. Services.localgov.ie will also support the development of digital services across the local government sector. The project is contributed to and supported by all 31 local authorities.
