North South Interconnector (NI Section)

 

Information has been received from the Strategic Planning Division of the Department for Infrastructure, Northern Ireland in respect of the following proposed development in Northern Ireland which is subject to an environmental impact assessment procedure and has potential transboundary effects.

Location:

O/2009/0792/F – Land to the rear of 152 Trewmount Road in the townland of Turleenan, Moy, Dungannon, Co Tyrone and overhead electrical transmission line from Trewmount Road, Moy to the townlands of Crossreagh and Crossbane, Co Armagh.

O/2013/0214/F – Lands between the proposed new NIE substation at the rear of 152 Trewmount Road, Moy Co Tyrone in the townland of Turleenan to the townlands of Doohat or Crossreagh and Crossbane Co Armagh on the border with the Republic of Ireland.

 

Nature of development:

O/2009/0792/F – Erection of a single circuit 400kV overhead line comprising 102 towers over 34.1kms from Trewmount Road, Moy in the townland of Turleenan to the border with the Republic of Ireland at the townland of Doohat or Crossreagh and a further section of overhead line extending for 0.2kms across the townland of Crossbane. Amendments to existing 275kV line removing one existing 275kV tower and erection of two new 275Kv towers. Connection via a new 400/275kV substation at land to the rear of 152 Trewmount Road.

O/2013/0214/F – Carry out associated works required for the erection of a single circuit 400kV overhead line comprising 102 towers over 34.1kms from Trewmount Road, Moy, in the townland of Turleenan to the border with the Republic of Ireland at the townland of Doohat or Crossreagh and a further section of overhead line extending for 0.2kms across the townland of Crossbane. Works to include site levelling, site preparation works, amending existing access points, construction of new access points, construction of new access lanes, construction of working areas, stringing areas, guarding, site boundary fencing and related mitigation works. Associated works required to amend the existing 275kV line removing one existing 275kV tower and erection of two new 275kV towers. Associated works required to enable connection via a new 400/275kV substation at Trewmount Road.

February 2016 – Oral Hearing Details

The Oral Hearing in respect of the North South 400kV Electricity Interconnector will commence at 11am on Monday 7th March in the Nuremore Hotel, Carrickmacross. It is anticipated that the hearing will last approximately twelve weeks. An Order of Proceedings, based on time slots being allocated to those parties that have requested to make a formal oral submission, has been published by An Bord Pleanala and is available by clicking on the link below.

January 2016 – Oral Hearing Announcement

An Bord Pleanala announced that the oral hearing relating to the proposed North South Electricity Interconnector will commence in March and last approximately twelve weeks (although it may not necessarily be over a continuous period). An agenda is currently being prepared and will be published two weeks in advance of the commencement of the oral hearing. A venue for the oral hearing is yet to be announced.

Any party intending to make a formal oral submision to the hearing is required to inform An Bord Pleanala in writing or by e mail before 5.30pm on 4th February 2016.

August 2015 – Written Submission to An Bord Pleanala by Monaghan County Council

On 24th August Monaghan County Council made a Written Submission to An Bord Pleanala in respect of the application for the North South Electricity Interconnector. This submission can be viewed by clicking on the download link below:-

June 2015 – North South Electricity Interconnector Application Submitted

An Bord Pleanála has received an application for approval under Section 182A (1) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), including Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) in respect of the proposed North South 400kV Interconnector Development.

The application documentation is available for public inspection /purchase at the Planning Office of Monaghan County Council, The Glen Monaghan and at the North-South Interconnection Information Centre, Carrickmacross Workhouse, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan in accordance with the terms of the public notice.

Submissions or observations in respect of the application for planning approval may only be made to An Bord Pleanala during the period of ten weeks from Tuesday 16th June until 5.30pm on Monday 24th August 2015.

Written submissions/ observations in relation to the proposed development must be accompanied by a fee of €50 (except for certain prescribed authorities) to An Bord Pleanála in accordance with details set out in the aforementioned public notice i.e. not later than 5.30p.m on Monday 24th August 2015.

Previous Withdrawn Application Documentation

In June 2010, Eirgrid withdrew its Strategic Infrastructure Development application to An Bord Pleanala for the Cavan – Tyrone 400kV Interconnector Development. The documents below were submitted by Monaghan County Council at the Oral Hearing relating to this withdrawn application.
